Grenfell Tower fire, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grenfell_Tower_fire цитата: | The cause of the fire is not yet known. The extraordinary speed at which the fire spread is widely believed to have been aided by the building's recently added exterior cladding, which appeared to contain highly flammable material. The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, criticised the safety instructions; in particular, those instructions telling people to stay in their flats until rescued by fire services. This advice proved fatal to residents who heeded it, as it relies on the assumption that fire services can contain a fire within the building's interior, which is impossible if the fire is spreading rapidly via the building's exterior. Since 2013, the residents' organisation, Grenfell Action Group, had repeatedly expressed concern about fire safety, and had warned the block's management in November 2016 that only a catastrophic fire would finally force them to treat fire precautions and maintenance of fire-related systems properly. |

| A laboratory test shows how aluminium panels burst into flames at temperatures 300C cooler than the London tower block blaze https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/3812802/shocking-video-shows-how-cladding-panels-similar-to-those-used-at-grenfell-tower-burst-into-flames-in-just-two-minutes-during-fire-test/ цитата: | Investigations and a public inquiry will centre around the materials used in the £8.6 million refurbishment of the block, completed last summer. Hundreds of aluminium panels made by US firm Reynobond are believed to have been used for the exterior facelift. It is claimed the aluminium composite material (ACM) encased a flammable layer of foam insulation but residents reported seeing the panels melt and fall away as fire tore through the building in the early hours of Wednesday. A laboratory test carried out by Sky News shows how material similar to the ACM panels began to melt at temperatures of 700C. This then causes the flammable polyethylene insulation to catch fire. At the peak of the fire, the tower is believed to have reached temperatures of around 1000C. Engineer Alistair Monk said: “Exposed to this sort of heat level it is eventually going to start to separate the various layers, and it’s burning.” The exact model of aluminium cladding used is believed to have been Reynobond PE, which has a plastic core. A fire-resistant version, Reynobond FR, has a mineral core and is ‘fire resistant’ but also £2 a square metre more expensive. |
